Menorrhaggia is excessive uterine bleeding. There can be many causes for this. Bleeding that does not seem to have a known etiology is often treated with progesterone. Some bleeding is treated by endometrial ablation. This procedure strips the uterus of it's lining. This is not an alternative to women wishing to retain their fertility!! Often it will leave the woman infertile, although this is not always the case. Some patients are treated with a D&C. There is a new treatment called cryoblation. It freezes the tissue of the uterus and therefore it dies. Often times Motrin is used to help the discomfort of abnormal uterine bleeding. Some doctors use birth control as a form of treatment.
Causes of abnormal uterine bleeding not discussed here will hopefully have their own thread so please refer to them for treatments.
