My name is Dawn, I am 38 years old, well at least for a couple more weeks.
My story starts on January 18, 2004...I woke up with the flu. From that day to this my world got turned upside down.
The "flu" turned out to be a 20 centimeter ovarian cyst that was twisting on itself. A flurry of tests, and ominous suspected diagnosis' came next.
February 3, 2004: The day my life changed forever. I woke up after 4 1/2 hours of surgery to find out "NO CANCER" yeh, great, awesome!!! However, we did find extensive endometriosis, and had to remove both ovaries, not just one, and did a lot of scraping and peeling while we were in there.
Bam...Surgical menopause...I have gone from being a relatively happy, healthy person( I did not have any symptoms of endometriosis, i.e. pain) to an emotional wreck, with constant pain, and mental retardation, plus a good hefty dose of insanity for good measure. I keep waiting for the "you will definitely feel better with that big thing out" prediction my DD made before the surgery.
Yes, I am a little on the bitter side...don't worry ladies, I do know, on the logical side of my brain, that this was probably a much needed surgery. It probably saved me from much more dire concerns down the road...but it is still hard to wrap my mind around it, in the here and now.
Onward, to happier days ;D
