I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but my boyfriend's mother is going to be having a hysterectomy very soon, and I was hoping to do something nice for her. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas or experiences of things they've received that were helpful or made you feel better. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!

Welcome to Hysterspot.
One of my dear friends sent me a hot w-a-t-e-r bottle in a fleece lamb. I used it a great deal. One idea that I purchased for myself that I found to be one of the best things to have was a grabber - one of those arms that reach and grab things that are out of reach.
She will not be able to cook meals for at least 3-4 weeks so casseroles or preparing meals for her. Offers to clean her house for her since she will not be able to vaccuum or wash floors for at least 6 weeks, or offering to go grocery shopping for her. I know that these don't sound like gifts but trust me - when you are on the receiving end of these things they are gifts.
Hope I was able to help. Please let her know about the site as well, and perhaps we can be of some assistance to her also.

Thanks so much for the welcome and the help, Francina! I really appreciate it and it gave me a great place to start. I'm not sure if she would appreciate my cooking all that much (LOL), but the cleaning I can definitely do. And, I will be sure to let her know about these boards. From the information I've read on these boards, having a support system of women going through or that have gone through it seems to be helpful. Thanks again!!!

Hi! So glad you found this site! I thought a great gift would be some really soft lounge pants/pajamas, that might make her feel better! When she has recovered she might like for you to take her on a short drive to get out of the house....and ordering take-out for her as a suprise on in to her recovery would be appreciated I am sure. Hope that helps....Francina had a lot of great ideas too! Jana

Am so glad we could be of help. It is very important to have a support system with other women who have gone through the experience. I was alone until I met a few other ladies online who were extremely helpful. They told me of their experiences, I learned through my research of the alternatives to a hysterectomy, of my choices of the type of hysterectomy. I learned the importance of knowing exactly what was going to happen, and educated myself to the fullest before my final appointment with my surgeon and I asked him every question I could think of to ensure that I knew exactly what he was going ot do and why.
What he didn't answer the ladies I met online were able to share with me through their own personal experiences, and it was because of their help that this site was started, so that we who were given the help and support can give it back to others.
Keep us informed, and feel free to pop in anytime.

Must of been those dang puter ghosts running around my house again - just like those old 'Not me" ghosts that lurk everywhere lol
