My name is Julie and I recently had a complete abdominal lapascopic assisted hysterectomy. Because of all the info on HRT and the link with breast cancer my doctor left my ovaries intact. Its been less than a week, and I still hurt badly. One of my ovaries had dropped and was wedged under my urea, and had to be repostioned. It now hurts more than the rest of my body. After leaving the hospital (friday), I developed a fever and had to return to the hopsital. I had developed pnuemonia. I just got out yesterday(Tuesday), and I still feel terrible. How long will it be before I feel better?

(((((Julie))))) I am so sorry you are having so much difficulty post op - I really have no idea how long it will take to feel better - each person is different - but with the added problem, I would assume that the pain is more from aggrevation. If the pain becomes intolerable don't hesitate to ask your doctor for a stronger pain medication and if it persists, call him/her and tell him/her that the pain is persisting and insist on being seen. Will keep you in my prayers - please keep us posted on what is happening -

Julie, Take Francina'sa advice. If the pain increases or feels different call your doctor immediately! You must be in control of your health care! I hope you feel better very soon!!!

I am still battling with the pnuemonia, and the fever from it. If I miss one dose of my pain meds, my fever jumps over 101. I am just so tired from feeling sick and yucky all the time. I just want to feel a little better.

Okay it has been almost three weeks since my surgery, and I am just starting to recover. I forgot to tell you that I have asthma, which made the pneumonia much worse. I had to return to the doctor last week, and still had the pnuemonia. He gave me another round of antibiotics(a much stronger one), steroids, and breathing treatments four times a day. I think I have finally overcome the sickness. But since the surgery I have had another rather bothersome condition, and I need to know if it is normal. Since the surgery I haven't had normal bowel movements. I seem to go about 10 times a day, but only very small amounts each time, and always with diahreah. It has become very uncomfortable, and frankly embarassing to talk about, but it has gotten me worried that maybe something in my surgery has caused this. Is this a normal complication? Has anyone else experinced this? Also the pain I was having in my stomach is almost gone, but has been replaced by a almost painful tingling sensation. I still can't wear anything that brushes on my stomach, and I am getting tired of wearing house dresses. When will I be able to wear my normal clothes again?

You are only 3 weeks post op - Give yourself time to heal. I wore my nighties for almost a month - and then only wore loose fitting clothing until the swelly belly went down. If you are overdoing things - you could experience pain - Be patient and rest rest rest. However - as much as I hated to hear this statement when I was healing - it is a wise one - if the pain is uncontrollable - see your doctor - With regards to the diahhrea - I suffered from constipation post op - did the doctor put you on anything to prevent constipation? It could be anything causing this - please speak with your doctor about this right away.

After such major surgery our bodies have to have some time to regroup. You might want to just check in with your doctor. As for wearing normal clothes.....give yourself some time. PJ's are great! lol. Good Luck! jana

Well its been almost a month, and some of the issues I had discussed have remedied themselves. I have a doc's visit tomorrow, and not soon enough for me. For the last week I have been having severly painful lower left abdominal pain radiating from just left of my hyster scar upwards. I've also been running a low grade fever. The pain at times gets so bad I can't walk, and I don't think its normal. Other than that the pnumonia has cleared up, and I feel a lot better. I even did some light carpet cleaning yesterday until the pain got unbearable. My hormones are still out of whack, but things are definatly looking brighter. No more MAXI pads for me!!! ;D

I AM 6 1/2 WEEKS POST OP. I HAD MY UT AND CERV REMOVED LEFT MY OV BUT HAD A CYST TAKEN OFF RIGHT OV. THE ONLY THING I CAN NEVER FORGET IS ALL THE PAIN THAT I WAS IN, OH YEAH AND ALL THE CONSTIPATION(I DID'T TAKE LAX BECAUSE WAS AFRAID OF DIA). I AM NEW TO THIS WEB SITE, BUT AM VERY EXCITED TO SPEAK TO OTHER WOMEN WHO HAVE GONE THRU THE SAME THING I DID. THE ONLY THING I REGRET ABOUT MY RECOVERY WAS THAT I DIDN'T GET TO REST VERY OFTEN BECAUSE I HAD TO TAKE CARE OF THE KIDS WHILE MY HUSBAND WENT TO WORK. I TOOK ALOT OF PAIN MEDS TO SURVIVE (AM OFF NOW ;D), BUT AM TRYING TO COPE WITH BEING ABLE TO BE UP AND ABOUT FOR MORE THEN 15 MINUTES WITHOUT STILL GETTING VERY WEAK AND TIRED.

Welcome Aneela - If you over did things in the first 6 weeks it will take longer to heal. It is important NOT to lift especially if you had a TAH - Feeling tired is normal, my surgeon told me to expect to tire more easily for up to 6 months post op - I did listen to the surgeon about not lifting or over doing things as I had an ectopic 12 yrs prior and overdid things then and it took forever to heal. Please listen to your body and don't over do it. As for the action you referred to in another post lol I haven't had any action in years so can't comment.

I will admit....nearly a year post-op I still have days that I am just wore out and have to rest. If I work too many hours at work I still get ligament pain from the ligaments holding up the vaginal cuff. Time is what we all need...I remember going back to work at 7 weeks post-op and feeling like I would never make it through the day. Give yourself time and it will work out! Jana

Hello. My name is carol and I just had an abdominal hysterectomy on Dec 5th. They took everything but the left ovary. I'm 28 years old. I had to have it done because of constant bleeding and lots of pelvic pain. I guess there was some endometriosis to. Anyways, I have a few ?'s. 1. Just above the incision on the right side of my tummy, it is numb to the touch. Only the skin surface. Has anyone ever experienced this? 2. Every now and then I get a burning or pinching type feeling in the lower stomach. Is this normal? 3. I have heard that even if you still have one ovary that you still will go through hot flashes. Is this true? 4. I am very tired but am having a lot of trouble sleeping. Has anyone experienced this also? Sorry for the list of ?’s. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks so much. Carol
