Meal In A Jar. I
Fill a 500 ml canning jar full of dry
ingredients for soup. You layer the ingredients (it looks very
colourful as you see the layers through the jar) in the jar. You
screw the lid on and then cover the lid with green or red felt or
some other christmas material. The material is held on the lid by
use of an elastic or ribbon. The recipe for the Meal In A Jar is
attached by threading the ribbon through a single hole punch in the
recipe card. Anyway, here is the directions for filling the jar and
also the recipe for making the soup.
Meal In A Jar
To refill jar:
Layer 1: 1/4 cup of beef soup base
Layer 2: 1/4 cup of pot barley
Layer 3: 1/4 cup of green lentils
Layer 4: 1/4 cup of red lentils
Layer 5: 1/4 cup of yellow split peas
Layer 6: 1/4 cup of vegetable flakes
Layer 7: 1/4 cup of baby shells
Print out the Instructins and can glue to a nice colored background & tie on with ribbon
Mix contents of jar in a large pot with eight (8) cups of water.
Bring to a boil. Simmer on medium heat for about 1 hour, stirring frequently. Add a can of diced tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste. Serve and enjoy!
Cowboy Cookie Mix in a Jar

Cowboy Cookie Mix in a Jar
1 1/3 cups quick oats
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups flour mixed with 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda and 1/4 tsp salt
Layer ingredients in order given in a 1 quart wide mouth caning jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient.
Recipe for Cowboy Cookies ( to go along with mix)
Empty jar of cookie mix into a large mixing bowl, blend mix together
Add:
1 stick butter melted
1 egg slightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla
Mix until completely blended.
Shape into balls the size of walnuts place 2 inches apart on sprayed baking sheets
Bake at 350 degrees for 11 to 13 minutes until edges are lightly browned . Cool

1/2 cup powdered orange flavored drink mix, such as Tang
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups vanilla baking chips
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teasthingy baking soda
1/2 teasthingy baking powder
Combine the flour with the baking soda and baking powder. Layer the ingredients in a clean glass wide mouth quart sized jar, starting with the Tang, then sugar, vanilla chips and ending with the flour mixture. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next ingredient. Attach a recipe card with the following instructions to the jar.

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Empty contents into a large mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg slightly beaten and teasthingy vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended.
3. Roll heaping tablesthingyfuls into balls. Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.
4. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 12 to 14 minutes or until tops are very lightly browned. Cool for 5 minutes on the sheet then remove cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
Makes 2-1/2 dozen
POTATO SOUP IN A JAR (1-29-99) 1-5-02 top of page
1¾ cups instant mashed potatoes
1½ cups dried milk
2 tbsps. instant chicken bouillon
2 tsps. dried minced onion
1 tsp. dried parsley
¼ tsp. ground white pepper
¼ tsp. dried thyme
1/8 tsp. turmeric
1½ tsps. seasoning salt
Combine all ingredients in a bowl; mix well. Put ingredients in a 1 quart jar. On
gift tag: Place ½ cup mix in soup bowl; add 1 cup of boiling water; stir until smooth. (white pepper is
from the middle of the peppercorn and it contains more heat taste than black pepper. black pepper contains more of the pepper taste you can also use regular pepper for this recipe)
PEANUT BUTTER CHOCLATE COOKIE MIX IN A JAR
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups packed confectioners' sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teasthingy baking powder
1/4 teasthingy salt
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Layer ingredients in order given in a 1 quart ''wide mouth'' canning jar. Clean the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel after adding the confectioners' sugar and after adding the cocoa powder. Be sure to pack everything down firmly before adding the flour mixture, it will be a tight fit.
Instructions to attach to jar:
PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE COOKIES
Empty jar of cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix. Add: 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened at room temperature. DO NOT USE DIET MARGARINE. Add 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, 1 egg, slightly beaten, and 1 teasthingy of vanilla. Mix until completely blended. You will need to use your hands to finish mixing. Shape into walnut sized balls and place 2 inches apart on a parchment lined baking sheets. DO NOT USE WAXED PAPER. Press balls down with a fork. Bake at 350° for 9 to 11 minutes until edges are browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet then transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

Makes 36
You will need:
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup wheat bran
Handful of dried lavender or other scented flowers
Two drops essential oil each sachet during assembly (optional esp if flowers unobtainable)
Sea salt or epsom salts (optional for a cleasing bath) or small amount almond or olive oil (for moisturizing bath)
Plastic bowl
Teasthingy
Diaper liners, layered cheesecloth or very thin cotton fabric squares
1/4 inch wide ribbon or string
Pinking shears
Ziplock bags or airtight containers for storage
Willing child or friend to help
To make:
1. Mix all the ingredients in a plastic bowl.
2. Place two teasthingys of mix in the centre of liner or fabric squares, gather up around the mixture and tie leaving ends
long enough to tie onto bath tap (optional).
3. Cut off corners of fabric using pinking shears.
HOMEMADE BATH SALTS
1 tbsp glycerine (found at the drugstore)
Essential oil or perfume (if you are not sensitive)
Lavendar or other dried flowers or herbs
Food colouring (optional)
3 cups Epsom Salts
Mix the glycerine, fragrance and several drops of the food colouring
in a large glass or metal bowl. Add the Epsom Salts a little at a
time, mixing constantly until the colour is evenly distributed. Adjust
fragrance and colour if you are not satisfied with the results. Store
in a pretty jar (Dollar Store?) with a tight fitting lid.
Add about 1/2 cup to bath water.
hristmas Gift Idea - Three Herbal Bath Recipes

These are from "Herbal Remedy Gardens, by Dorie Byers" Each recipe
makes enough for one bath. Great to put in individual small gift bags.
You need muslin bath bags for 2 of these recipes. Make 3 or 4 bags
for each person or give one of each?? Add to a basket with
chemical/scent free soap.
Troubled Skin Bath
1/4 cup fresh or 2 tbsp dried thyme
1/4 cup fresh or 2 tbsp dried Calendula blossoms(Tara Foods)
Mix to-gether and put in sachet.
Instructions: Add herbs to 1 quart boiling water and simmer covered
for 10 min. Remove infusion and cool to lukewarm then strain. Add
liquid to bathwater.
Deoderizing Bath
1/4 cup fresh or 2 tbsp dried thyme
1/4 cup fresh or 2 tbsp dried lavendar buds
1/4 cup fresh or 2 tbsp dried rosemary
1 muslin bath bag
Mix to-gether and place in the muslin bath bag. Close tightly and
simmer covered for 15 minutes in 1 quart of boiling water. Cool to
lukewarm and add all to bathwater. Use the bag of herbs as a
washcloth.
