This time last year I was getting ready for the big day:
March 27th 2001
Go to the hospital bright and early, had to be there at 10.00am
Had blood pressure, weight, bloods and saw Dr to sign consent form. Had the rest of the day to get used to my surroundings which were to be for 6 nights.
March 28th
Big day, I was last on list for the aftenoon, as it was Maundy Thursday surgery started at 1.00pm, I was taken down at 2.40pm, I had a tablet before to calm my nerves. Got to the operating theatre and met up with the anaethesis, I had an i.v put in and he said I would cough a little and before I knew I was waking up again, the time was 4.40pm, I had a morphine pump which I quickly learned how to press, no pain was felt at all. I was taken back to my bed where I was given oxygen throughout the night as morphine can surpress you breathing. By the way I had a TAH with conservation of ovaries. My surgey took slightly longer due to the fact my uterus was stuck to my womb, I had a catheter on for 4 days.
Day 1 after surgery.
I was woken up morning after surgery, washed clean nightie on and sat out of bed, i was given breakfast which I ate and then was put back in bed to rest, by the evening I was walking freely around the bed.
Day 2 after surgery lots and lots of wind, I was given peppermint in hot water, which eased it slightly.
Day 3. Pain quite bad today more sore, Morphine pump had been taken off 12 hrs after surgery so I was now on tablets, had to have stronger painkillers to cope with pain.
Day 4.more relaxed today looking forward to going home tomorrow day 5.
Day 5.
Yippee time to go home. Dh came for me at 1.30pm off I waddled to my own bed.
Onwards
Recovery - off work 19 wks.
1YR later
Best thing that I had ever done
Good luck all you pre's well worth the pain etc.
